UNIT II: Tools and Techniques to assess Learner’s Performance
The
word tool literally means implement for mechanical operations. But in
educational evaluation tool may be defined as an instrument to collect
evidences of student’s achievement. Achievement Test, Anecdotal Record,
Cumulative Record, Check-list, Rating Scale, Questionnaire, etc. are the main
tools of evaluation in education.
Checklist
Children
behave differently on different occasion. Teachers are constantly observing
this behavior. Much of this behavior, if regularly recorded, can be of immense
value in evaluation. Checklist is a device, which can be used for this purpose.
A
checklist is a simple tool of evaluation. It is easy to make, easy to use, and
yet can be constructed to cover various aspects of an individual’s behavioral
adjustment. In preparing a checklist, the teacher must keep in mind what kinds
of behaviors are important to record and what kind of objectives are to be
evaluated.
The
check-list is a simple laundry-list type of device, consisting of a prepared
list of items. It is easy to construct and easy to use. This tool has the
advantage of systematizing and facilitating the recording of observations and
helping to assure the consideration of all important aspects of the object or
action observed. The result can be recorded by putting tick-mark against the
item. The cumulative result will be used for evaluation.
